Karapiro School

Karāpiro School has a rich and unique history. We are now the only school left from the original group of schools in the district.

Karāpiro School, Taotaoroa Number 1 School, Taotaoroa Number 2 School, Hydro School and Whitehall School celebrated 100 years of schooling in 1985.

In 2010 jubilee celebrations were held to acknowledge 125 years of schooling in the district.

Our archive records show that Karāpiro School was originally known as Taotaoroa Number 1 School and was located further down the road. In 1922 the school was relocated onto its current site. This year we celebrate 100 years of schooling on our current school site - which we think is cause for celebration! Come and join us on November 11 and 12 2022 as we celebrate with our school community.

We are working our way through the exciting archive documents we have on site and at Archives NZ. Our curriculum focus this year is to learn our local stories. Watch this space for more info to come - we have lots of stories to share with you!
