Karapiro School

12 August 2020

Kia ora koutou katoa,

As you may be aware, the Prime Minister has announced that the Auckland region is moving to Level 3 at noon today, followed by the rest of the country moving to Level 2. This is because Covid-19 has been detected in Auckland with no known source of transmission. Karāpiro School staff have met to discuss our health & safety plan for Karāpiro School and we have the following reminders for you as we move to Alert Level 2:

What does Alert Level 2 look like for Karāpiro School?

  • We are safe and open for learning

  • Staff and students are practicing good hygiene procedures - hand sanitiser on entry to classrooms, washing hands on exiting classrooms (before play and eating), and sneezing/coughing into elbows

  • Regular cleaning of surfaces

  • Spacing and distancing where possible

  • Contact tracing - parents wishing to come on-site need to sign in at the school office

  • Contact tracing app available at school gates

  • If you or your child are unwell please stay at home. If you are offered a Covid test, please take one

A sensible precaution at this stage is to limit the opportunity for Covid-19 to spread and for this reason I advise you that our Maths Pizza Night (planned for tomorrow evening) will now be postponed until Term 4. Naturally we are all disappointed but we feel strongly that it is a sensible decision to make at this time.

It’s important however that safe hygiene habits are practised by everyone, as this is essential to minimise the risk that someone gets infected with Covid-19. For more information about the public health measures at Alert Level 2, you can visit the covid19.govt.nz website: https://covid19.govt.nz/covid-19/restrictions/alert-level-2/

If you have any questions about our health and safety plan, or have a child who might be vulnerable to serious illness and would like to discuss a plan for them, please contact me. Please also advise me if you are an essential worker so I have updated information for my school records.

We will be in touch again soon with more information. As you have been doing, please keep connecting with your teachers with any questions you might have.

With kind regards

Tina-Maree Thatcher
