General Information

Having taught for many years both in New Zealand and overseas, I am excited to now be working with our senior students here at Karapiro School.  I am passionate about teaching and learning and I thrive on the challenges that engaging and motivating students through authentic learning opportunities bring. My belief is that as life long learners, teachers and students alike are on a journey of discovery together, especially in the digital world that we live in today.

Family is very important to me and as a mum of two boys, our family times are often spent attending sporting events and pursuing a variety of outdoor activities.  Reading, art and travel are interests of mine, along with looking after the menagerie we have on our lifestyle block.

Role

Learning Support

General Information

Hi my name is Cate. I gained my experience working in a large school in Ipswich, Queensland as an oncall teacher aide. It was here that I first worked with a wide range of special needs students and found a passion for providing them with supported access to mainstream school and their peers. I moved back to New Zealand with my now pre-school daughter two years ago. I also manage the local Farmers Market.

General Information

My name is Tina Turkilsen and I am delighted to be part of the junior team at Karapiro School. I have been a teacher for a number of years and I live to see the little light bulbs go on when they have ‘got it’.
I have two wonderful tamariki of my own: Ben, who is a police officer in the Waikato and Laura, who works as a stock controller in Hamilton. I also have a beautiful moku who is the apple of my eye, and starts school herself this year!
I am passionate about children’s learning and aim for every child to achieve their optimum learning experience.
In Ruma toru we are working towards being independent learners. As we are a group of different individuals, all students are provided for in a variety of ways. We want the children to be excited about coming to school, about their learning and have fun being with their friends.
When I am not working I love spending time with my whanau and my cat called Zoe. I also enjoy cutting and digging in my garden and watching sport.
